Welcome to the House.

I’m Bill Henderson, game master, storyteller, and lifelong nerd. House of Hender is my home for all things TTRPG: running games, crafting adventures, and exploring the magic of storytelling.

For a few years now, I’ve been rolling dice, leading players into mystical ruins, haunted starships, and forgotten realms and watching as they turn left when I expected them to turn right. That’s the magic of tabletop RPGs. No two games are ever the same, and the best moments are always the ones you never saw coming.

Whether you’re a seasoned GM, a first-time player, or just someone who loves great stories, House of Hender is a place for you.

About Me: The Game Master Behind the Screen

I’m still pretty new to this side of the screen. I officially started running public games in April of 2024, and since then, I’ve jumped in headfirst, running countless sessions, trying out new systems, and connecting with an incredible community of players and storytellers.

While I haven’t been GMing for decades, I’ve found a real passion for it, not just building worlds, but inviting others to explore them. The magic for me is in the unexpected: players making bold choices, the dice deciding fate, and stories that grow in ways no one could predict.

My GMing style leans into:

  • Story-driven gameplay – I care more about meaningful choices and narrative momentum than staying in character 100% of the time.

  • Letting the dice decide – Uncertainty makes the best stories.

  • The Rule of Cool – If it makes the game more fun, it’s probably the right call.

I encourage players to think like their characters, describe what they want to do or say, and contribute to the story in their own way—whether that means full-on roleplay or just making bold, thoughtful choices.

I believe that anyone can jump into TTRPGs. You don’t need to memorize rulebooks or have a perfect character sheet—just a little imagination, a few dice, and a willingness to see where the story goes.

Systems I Run

  • Dungeons & Dragons

The gateway game for many, and still a great tool for collaborative storytelling.

  • Dragonbane

Swedish fantasy with just the right mix of crunch and chaos.

  • ShadowDark

Fast, dangerous, and built with old-school dungeon crawl energy.

  • Death In Space

Sci-fi survival at the edge of the universe.

  • The Electric State

Haunting visuals and narrative-focused play in a retro-future America.

  • Old Gods of Appalachia

Horror, folklore, and slow-burn tension set deep in the Appalachian dark.

  • BATMAN: GOTHAM CITY CHRONICLES RPG

Gritty superhero storytelling in the streets of Gotham.

  • Kobolds Ate My Baby

Pure chaotic fun in the silliest of places.

Organizations & Projects

Midgar Press

Alongside Jonathon, I co-run The Midgar Press, a publishing house dedicated to creating TTRPG adventures, game supplements, and original content. Inspired by games like Dragonbane, ShadowDark, Vaesen, Death in Space, and OSR systems, we focus on crafting immersive, atmospheric experiences for players and GMs alike.

Nerd Louisville

I serve on the board of Nerd Louisville, a nonprofit dedicated to building and supporting the local gaming community. We organize game nights, charity events, and bring people together through the magic of tabletop games. This is likely the best opportunity to join one of my games!

Lurking Fears

Most conventions I attend I’m running with Lurking Fears, a collective focused on horror-themed TTRPGs and immersive storytelling experiences. If you love eerie mysteries, cosmic dread, and games where the unknown is always lurking just out of sight, you’ll feel right at home.

At its heart, tabletop gaming isn’t just about rules or dice. It’s about people, choices, and the unexpected moments that turn into stories we carry with us.

House of Hender is a place to celebrate those stories, share ideas, and keep the adventure going long after the session ends.

The road ahead is full of wonder, discovery, and maybe even danger. Be careful out there.
